Sides are short excerpts from a script or other scripted material used as part of the audition process. Actors may be given sides before an audition, in which case the expectation is that the actor will have their lines memorized in time for the audition and that they will have made some choices on how they will approach the role.

Sides may also be provided at the time of the audition. An audition conducted under these circumstances is considered a cold reading.
